Introducing Athena’s Class Rating
Are you a horse racing enthusiast looking to gain an edge
in your betting decisions? If you are looking to up your handicapping game,
then understanding the importance of class in horse racing is essential. Class
refers to the competitive level of a race and the quality of horses competing
in it, which can be key factors when making informed betting decisions.
In this blog post, we introduce Athena's Class Rating - an
innovative approach that combines PAR speed rating for a race with each
individual horse's performance from their last race - providing an accurate
approximation for class. Let’s take a closer look at how Athena's Class Rating
works and why it could be such an invaluable tool for any serious handicapper
out there!
Athena’s Class Rating uses two main components:
· The
first component is based on data gathered from past performances (PP) records
including speed figures or Beyer Speed Figures as well as final time figures;
these are used to calculate what is known as PAR Ratings – Performance Adjusted
Ratings – which provide insight into how fast each track was during specific
races.
The second component is based on the horse's performance in the last race, represented by its speed rating.
The formula is simple yet effective:
(Speed Par for Last Race +
Speed Rating for Last Race) / 2
By combining both elements together, Athena’s Class provides
users with approximation regarding not only where certain horses should fit
within their respective classes but also whether those same horses have been
improving recently enough so that they might contend against higher-level
competition.
A Statistical Analysis with Remarkable Results:
We put Athena's Class Rating to the test, analyzing over
7,000 races. The results were remarkable: the top two rankings based on
Athena's Class Rating won approximately 45% of the time. To illustrate,
consider this example:
Race: 11/11/2023, GPX 10th Race
Winner: 7 - KHOZEIRESS (Paying $18.60)
Place: 10 - WEST COAST COWBOY
$1 EXACTA 7-10 PAID $37.90
Both the winner and the place horse had a rating of 94, as
shown in Figure 2.
Overall, using Athena's ratings can give players access to valuable information about upcoming races while still allowing them plenty room for personal judgement calls based on their own observations/experience too making it easier than ever before predict outcomes accurately without needing much guesswork involved whatsoever! Given the circumstances then. It seems clear why so many people are turning towards utilizing programs like these instead of traditional methods alone nowadays...
